MicroRNAs are short, non-coding, single-stranded RNA molecules encoded by genomic DNA with no common sequences like polyA tail or cap. They are crucial regulators of signalling pathways and orchestrators of molecular processes. They are very promising biomarkers due to their tissue specificity and stability in biofluids. There is also an increasing interest in targeting these molecules for therapeutical purposes.
